2004 WSOP Champion Greg Raymer Busted in NC Prostitution Ring 494c20

Poker winner Greg Raymer. Raymer, along with five other men, responded to an ment which was posted by undercover police. Raymer now faces misdemeanor charges for prostitution as well as a charge of attempted crimes against nature.

The prostitution sting took place in Wake Forest, North Carolina and police were able to catch Raymer and the other men by placing an ment on a website where men can find women who practice prostitution. “Fossilman” is famously known as the 2004 WSOP Main Event winner and according to Wake Forest documents he also owns a home in the city of Wakefield worth $1.6 million. According to several profiles on Raymer, he is married with one child.

Wade Smith is the acting attorney for Raymer in this case and he spoke with ABC11 today, releasing a statement: “Mr. Raymer is very sorry for this lapse in judgment. He regrets deeply the pain he has caused his family, friends and fans. Mr. Raymer is grateful for the many expressions of he has received.”

The prostitution sting was part of an attempt by the local police department to try and cut down the amount of prostitution taking place in the area. Jeff Leonard, the Police Chief, released a statement: “The locations prostitutes choose for this type of criminal activity vary and seldom remain the same for more than a couple of days at a time which makes enforcement difficult.”

Along with Raymer, Christopher Burell Shella, age 41, was arrested. Shella was an acting attorney in the Crystal Mangun case when she was arrested in 2011 for murder. Also arrested were: Kevin Scott Konarzewski, Barrett Lee Bennett, Robert Hancock and Gerald Barham. All of the men were given $1,000 bond.
