World Series of Poker Circuit in Tulsa Hard Rock came to an end, and although everyone expected Maurice Hawkins to win his 12th WSOPC ring, he did not manage to do it as Phillip Pope stood in his way and won the first prize in the Main Event of this tournament. In the end, Maurice ended up on the third place. Pope won a total of $215,000 and received a seat at the Global Casino Championship. This is the first ring for Phillip Pope, who is an amateur poker player from Texas. Until this tournament, Pope had a total of $80,000 in tournament cashes. He gave a short statement for the news, saying that he couldn’t believe that he was there.

The event had a total of $1 million in guaranteed cash prizes, but the organizers did not manage to sur this number with the number of entries. Some of the players who managed to be among 55 paid players but fell short of reaching the final table are DJ Alexander, Justin Gardenhire, Kevin Eyster, Michael Sanders, and Chris Conrad. Furthermore, Will Berry was on that list as well, and his name is special for this tournament as he was its former champion.

Maurice Hawkins was pretty much everyone’s favorite as he also had the chip lead for a very long time, and even entered the final table as the chip leader. Trey Brabham left the game in fourth place, leaving an interesting three-handed play which consisted of Maurice Hawkins, Kou Vang, and Phillip Pope.

Hawkins met Pope’s fury when he managed to flop a second pair of nine against trip queens. Maurice was unable to run away from a river bet, and that was the final blow after which he was unable to recover. Vang was not even a real threat after that as and Pope managed to sum things up pretty quickly in the head-up play, winning his first-ever ring.
