US Online Poker News: Barney Frank’s HR 6870 es In Committee 181w3g

Since the deceptive age of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006, Congressman Barney Frank has spent a great deal of time and effort to halt the enforcement of the bill and further clarify its intentions. Yesterday, Frank got one step closer when his proposed bill, HR 6870 – the Payments System Protection Act – was voted through in the House Financial Services Committee.

This is the not the first bill Barney Frank has proposed, but it is the first to be approved by the US

government. HR 6870 was written up to provide financial institutions with detailed definitions of what is and is not considered illegal in regards to online gambling. The bill will also act to suspend inaction of any regulations within the UIGEA.

When the bill was receiving its committee mark-up yesterday, Representative William Lacy Clay berated the position of professional sports leagues, stating, “I’m alarmed that major league sports would come forward to announce their opposition to the Bill. I’m puzzled by their stance especially when you have legal sports books in Las Vegas. I can’t figure out what the difference is between Internet gambling and Las Vegas sports books.”
Barney Frank has stood firm on his belief that the United States government should not have the right to choose how Americans spend their leisure time. It is Frank’s decisive goal to give that right back to the people of this country by legalizing, regulating and taxing online gambling in the US.
